When we got married, my wife and I were on a pretty tight budget. To save a little on photography, we hired an aspiring wedding photographer who also happened to be a highway patrolman. Not too surprisingly, the pictures came out looking a bit like crime-scene photos. We've been married a long time now, and we still get a good laugh out of them. (The story is a lot funnier than the pictures themselves.)



It's a funny story, but it also taught me something about wedding photography. The pictures that matter most aren't necessarily the ones where everyone is looking at the camera. They're the ones that bring you back to the way the day actually felt.
